Description Cedar cabin lodging with modern comforts in the beautiful Shawnee Forest of Southern Illinois. Adjacent to Rim Rock and Pounds Hollow Lake, minutes away from spectacular Garden of the Gods, Cave-in-Rock, River to River Trail, Kentucky Amish Country and much more. Endless trails right off our place. We are on the Shawnee Hills Scenic Byway, the American Discovery Trail and 1/3 mile from the River to River Trail. Private setting. Cabins have woods on three sides, park like setting out front. We now have three cabins. Cougar Bluff and the Bear's Den are the smaller cabins. Cougar Bluff will sleep 4 comfortably and Bear's Den will sleep 5 comfortably. Deer Run is larger, with a separate bedroom, larger loft and larger screened in porch. Deer Run will sleep 8 comfortably. See web site for more detail. We are located in Hardin County, Illinois 3.2 miles East of the little town of Karbers Ridge and 3.3 miles West of Hwy 1 on Karbers Ridge/Pounds Hollow blacktop. We are 370 miles from Chicago, 166 miles from St. Louis, 70 miles from Evansville, and 65 miles from Paducah. If you are using a trip maker system, input Karbers Ridge instead of our Elizabethtown mailing address. The trip maker systems do not recognize some of the roads that would make your trip shorter. If you are traveling from the North get on I 57. 24 miles past Mt. Vernon and the junction of I57 and I64 is the town of Benton. Get off I57 at the Benton/Hwy 14 exit. (Exit 71). Turn left at the top of the off ramp. At the town square in Benton get on Hwy 34 SE. Take it to Harrisburg. In Harrisburg get on Hwy 13 East*. Take Hwy 13 East 17 miles to Hwy 1. Take Hwy 1 South 8.3 miles to Pounds Hollow blacktop. (There is a blue state sign that says our name and brown forestry signs that says Garden of the Gods, Pounds Hollow). Turn right on Pounds Hollow blacktop. ** Go 3.3 miles. When you see Hill Cemetery on the left, start watching for our driveway. It is just around the curve on the LEFT. Amish wheels are on either side of the driveway and have reflectors on the spokes for better visibility at night. Turn left into the driveway and make another immediate left up to cabins. Bear?s Den is the first cabin and Cougar Bluff is the second cabin and Deer Run is the third cabin. *(Note: If you want to get groceries while driving through Harrisburg....after you get on 13 East go to the next light (Hwy 45) and turn left. Go about three blocks and you will see a Kroger on the left) If you are traveling from the South, take either I57 or I24 North to Hwy 146. On either highway it is just 46 miles to 146 from the Southern border of Illinois. Turn East on Hwy 146. Travel through Golconda on 146. 10 miles past Golconda take Hwy 34 North. Go 10 miles to Karbers Ridge blacktop. There is a gas station and grocery store at the Junction where you turn. Karbers Ridge turns right. Go 9 miles. When you see the Water tower on the left we are another ? mile on the right. The gate has an American Flag hanging from it. There is a Rim Rock sign in our field right before you get to the Driveway and a little ?cabins? sign just at the driveway. Amish wheels are on either side of the driveway and have reflectors on them for visibility at night. If you are traveling from Indianapolis or Louisville, take I65 South to Louisville, Ky - get on I64 West. Continue on I64 to Illinois. Just inside the Illinois line take Hwy 1 South. Continue on 1 South through the junction of 1 and 13. 8.3 miles past the junction of 1 and 13 (you are still on 1) you will turn on Pounds Hollow blacktop. (There is a blue state sign that says our name and brown forestry signs that says Garden of the Gods, Pounds Hollow). Turn right on Pounds Hollow blacktop. ** Go 3.3 miles. When you see Hill Cemetery on the left, start watching for our driveway. It is just around the curve on the LEFT. (Groceries could be obtained in Carmi at South end of town on Hwy 1) If you are traveling from Evansville. take 62 West out of Evansville. It turns into Hwy 141 when you get into Illinois. At Hwy 1 turn South on 1. When you get to the junction of Hwy 1 and 13 continue on Hwy 1 South 8.3 miles to Pounds Hollow blacktop. See ** above for rest of directions. Amenities  Cougar Bluff features a fireplace and 27" tv. Each cabin has a full kitchen including stove with oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster and all kitchen essentials. Each cabin has a big shower, air, heat, ceiling fans, satellite tv, vcr, and dvd. Each cabin has a fire ring for camp fires and a charcoal grill. Each cabin has firewood, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, popcorn, puzzles, games, books, tapes, charcoal and lighter. We even provide candles for those romantic evenings. Activities and Attractions We are bordered by the Shawnee National Forest, across the road from Rim Rock Recreational Trail, 1 mile from Pounds Hollow Lake and Swimming Beach, 7 miles from Garden of the Gods, 13 miles from Cave-In-Rock, 15 miles from Glen O' Jones Lake. The free ferry on the Ohio River to Kentucky Amish Country is 13 miles away. Access to the Shawnee Ohio River Taxi at Cave-In-Rock, Elizabethtown or Rosiclare is minutes away. Hiking, horseback riding, swimming, fishing, sight seeing, river travel, mountain biking, hunting, or just relaxing. We have it all in Southern Illinois.
