Description
Whitetail Lodge is located on the west side of scenic Glen Lake in a heavily wooded, very secluded and private area. Large windows face Glen Lake giving a spectacular view of the lake and opposite shore. Included in this view are mountains that rise up from the east shore of Glen Lake. These rugged mountains are part of the Rockies and are contained within the Kootenai National Forest with nearby majestic 6,000 to 9,000 foot mountain peaks. Part of your view also includes Therriault Pass. Located at the top of this mountain range, it is a large glacially formed U-shaped pass. Years ago a glacier swept through this pass and down into the valley below where it scoured out the lake bed of Glen Lake. As the glacier receded the waters filled this basin and formed Glen Lake.
Glen Lake is a picture perfect mountain lake. It is about 1 mile across and 2 miles long. It warms up nicely in the summer for swimming, is large enough for boating and water skiing and is full of trout and salmon if you like to fish. Periodically you may spot an Osprey or Bald Eagle doing some fishing of their own. Frequently, Whitetail deer will be seen in the front yard feeding in the morning. We have also seen elk and moose on occasion, but deer are very common.
Whitetail Lodge Description
Whitetail Lodge is situated on a 1 acre wooded lot located about 100 yards up a slope from Glen Lake. The lodge construction is called post and beam. The frame of the house was built using huge Engelmann Spruce logs (26 inches to 38 inches in diameter) from Prince George, Canada. All the ceilings are constructed from tongue-and-groove pine planking. The walls between the logs are sheetrock. The massive logs give the Lodge a majestic look and feel and the sheetrock adds a clean and finished appearance. This is truly a very unique and beautiful structure. Construction of Whitetail Lodge was completed in the fall of 2002.
The main floor contains one bedroom, one bathroom and the kitchen. These rooms have tall 10 foot ceilings with log beams running throughout. The main floor also has a great room (combination living room and dining area) with enormous logs, a very tall 22 foot high vaulted ceiling and numerous picture windows looking out over the lake. Stairs lead up to a loft which includes a cozy and quaint reading room and a very nice master bedroom suite with a private bathroom. Stairs also lead down into a daylight basement which contains a spacious family room, a large bedroom, and a fully equipped laundry room.
Outside, Whitetail Lodge is finished with cedar siding, blending it in nicely with its heavily wooded surroundings. A spacious deck spans the front of the Lodge overlooking Glen Lake and the mountains on the opposite shore. There is a convenient circle driveway leading into the lodge with a nicely developed gathering area for children to play in the center of the drive and 2 RV sites (with full hook ups) tucked into the trees on the outside radius of the drive. A small, rustic guest cabin is also located on the property for more adventurous campers. A winding path leads through the woods and down toward the lake.
Whitetail Lodge does have lake access but the path is currently undeveloped and fairly steep. It is a fun hike for the adventurous, but a better option for enjoying water sports would be to utilize the public beach area on the opposite side of the lake. |
