Description
At The Elliott Guest House, located in Livingston, Montana near the Yellowstone River, you can enjoy bed and breakfast amenities with vacation rental lodging accommodations. The home was built in 1916 by German emigrant Ed Schultz and his wife, Sarah Millard Schultz. Sarah, an English emigrant, came to Livingston as a pioneer midwife. She ultimately converted the home into a guest house for expectant mothers. Sarah Schultz offered these women the pampering they needed and deserved before returning to their ranching duties.
Nowadays, innkeeper Kara Stermitz Ricketts is in charge of the pampering. She is the great-granddaughter of the home's namesake, Charles Elliott. Charles moved into the home in 1948 along with his wife, Gertrude, Sarah Schultz's daughter. Aside from The Elliott House, Charles Elliott's most lasting memorial is the Roosevelt Arch, which hovers over the entrance to Yellowstone Park. He crafted the lettering for that arch in addition to helping design and build the original Chittendon Bridge that crosses the Yellowstone River, as well as other Yellowstone Park structures.
The three-bedroom, one-bath guest house sleeps up to eight people, but is available to only one party at a time. In keeping with its location, The Elliott House is tastefully appointed with Yellowstone Park collectibles and an eclectic collection of regional art, photographs, and antiques. In keeping with midwife Sarah Schultz's tradition of attentive care, guests are pampered with fine chocolates, European skin soothers, and custom soaps and bath oils.
Relax in a soothing bath of eucalyptus and sea salts in the antique clawfoot bathtub/shower. In the bedrooms, you will find fine linens and quilts, and the small library includes current periodicals. The full kitchen is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, mixer, microwave, fine china, glassware, and cookware as well as all your basic condiments. Further amenities include cable television, telephone, and a washer and dryer.
During the summertime, guests gather out on the sun porch for a delectable continental breakfast, followed perhaps by a stroll through the property's English flower gardens and their kaleidoscopic explosion of color. The winter months, especially the Christmas holidays, offer their own sweetness as the home is filled with the aroma of pine and fir wreaths accompanied by all the trimmings of traditional European holiday decor. |
